Ms. Montalvo is currently a Dctoral Candidate at Columbia University School of Nursing.  Her research interest is leadership, mentoring and political skill in the emerging nurse leader.  She is an innovative nurse leader and consultant with over 20 years of experience working in quality improvement, project design and implementation, strategic planning, and health policy.  She has led both national and statewide initiatives working as Clinical Director for the New York State Diabetes Campaign, Chief Clinical Programs Officer of the Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS) and Northeast Director for the National Health Disparities Collaboratives sponsored by the Human Resource Service Administration, Bureau of Primary Health Care from 1999 to 2006.   She has been recognized for her extraordinary contributions to decreasing health disparities and honored with two US Surgeon General Awards: C. Everett Koop in 1999 for work in pediatric asthma and in 2008 for work on Childhood Obesity using the NIH WE CAN curriculum with the Children's Museum of Manhattan.   She has severed on several national committees: RWJF Future Nurse Scholars, Partners Investing in Nursing's Future, Chaired the Operating Committee for CDC/NIH National Diabetes Education Program, and National Center for Prevent Blindness America.  Ms. Montalvo is a 2012-2014 Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar.
