Professor and Associate Dean for Academic and Clinical Affairs in the College of Nursing at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Cavanagh is also currently VP of the Nursing Practice Corporation which delivers health care to Wayne State University students through a nurse-managed clinic arrangement. Prior to this appointment, he was Professor and Head of Nursing and Health Studies at the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom, and Professor and CEO of the Birmingham and Solihull College of Nursing and Midwifery, National Health Service. In his current role, Dr. Cavanagh is involved in several projects aimed at developing international partnerships, technology innovation and the use of robots in clinical practice. He works with a number of health systems within Michigan to develop clinical research models to improve nursing outcomes, to reduce the number of in-patient hospital falls and to improve hospice care using tele-health methods. He has published over 50 scholarly papers and reviews papers for nursing journals. He has received over $5 million in external grant funding to develop nursing practice arrangements, support diversity in nursing, and increase the nursing workforce. He serves on the Michigan Regional Action Network for Nursing and the Michigan Department of Community Health Advanced Nursing Practice Study Group and is a grant review chair for the Bureau of Health Professions, Division of Nursing. He was awarded the Wayne State University Presidential International Development Award (2008).
