Yvonne VanDyke is Senior Vice President for Nursing at the Seton Healthcare Family, the largest hospital system in Central Texas. Nine of Seton’s 11 hospitals are ANCC-designated - four with Magnet designation; and five with Pathway to Excellence status. Yvonne assumed the Senior Vice President position in October 2013 and is committed to person-centered quality care achieved through transformational leadership and an engaged, flexible, collaborative nursing workforce. Prior to being named Sr. Vice President, Yvonne oversaw a transformation of nursing and interprofessional education. She developed and implemented a system-wide structure for contemporary, efficient, and evidence-based nursing education and professional development. In addition, she led the development for - and was named founding administrator of - the Clinical Education Center at Brackenridge, a 160,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art interprofessional, collaborative clinical education and simulation learning facility with high-fidelity mannequins, skills and computer labs. Yvonne led the implementation of an RN residency program for new graduate nurses, and has a critical role in strategic planning for the Center for Nursing Research.
Before being recruited to Seton, Yvonne served as executive dean of Health Sciences at Austin Community College, one of the largest community colleges in the U.S. Beginning her career as a professor of vocational nursing at ACC, she ultimately developed exemplary pedagogies across the college's 14 multidisciplinary health careers programs. She ensured that curricula were responsive to the community's needs, and that all eligible programs qualified for external accreditation. Yvonne created the first distance-learning program for vocational nursing in Texas, and she led various special projects such as the construction of the $12.8 million Health Sciences building,the creation of a dental hygiene program, and a patient care clinic. Yvonne also secured grant funding and developed collaborations with other two-year as well as four-year educational institutions, major regional hospitals, and with employers of the public workforce.
Nationally, Yvonne has given numerous podium and poster presentations and participated in panel discussions. Yvonne is actively involved in nursing communities at all levels. She is a member of the advisory committee for the Texas initiative on the Future of Nursing. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, American Nurses Association, and Texas Nurses Association. Yvonne is a site visitor for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Yvonne's leadership is strongly felt locally. In 2012, she was named (by peers) as one of the Texas Nurses Association “Fabulous 5”. She is an active member of the boards of directors of Goodwill Industries of Central Texas, Hospice Austin, and the Health Industry Steering Council of Central Texas. She serves on the advisory boards of ACC, The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing and Concordia Luther School of Nursing. Yvonne earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Prairie View A&M University and a Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin.
