Former Senior Vice President, Federal Government Relations, Amerigroup Corporation

From 2001 until the spring of 2014, Brian Coyne served as Senior Vice President, Federal Government Relations at Amerigroup, a multi-state managed health care company serving low-income families and children, people with disabilities and the elderly through state sponsored programs, including the Medicaid, CHIP and state-sponsored Family Care programs.   Mr. Coyne has spent his professional career involved in government and politics.  He spent 10 years in various governmental positions as Chief of Staff of the Social Security Administration from 1994 to 2001 and as Deputy Chief of Staff to Rhode Island Governor Bruce Sundlun from 1991 to 1994.  In 2006, Mr. Coyne was appointed by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine to the Virginia Health Reform Commission where he served as co-chair of the Long Term Care Workgroup.  In 2010, he was appointed to the National Academy of Social Insurance study panel on Health Insurance Exchanges.  He has worked in numerous local, state and national political campaigns over the years, and continues to be involved in local civic affairs. Mr. Coyne is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska.  He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cornell University where he graduated with honors in Government.  He also has a Master in Public Administration Degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.  Currently he is pursuing a doctorate in law and policy at Northeastern University and is a private consultant.
