Carolyn Hayes is a nurse executive at the Dana-Farber Brigham and Women's Cancer Center, a joint venture of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute [DFCI] and Brigham and Women's Hospital [BWH]. Carolyn serves as the associate chief, Oncology, Medical and Integrative Nursing at DFCI and BWH. In her role, she is accountable for medical oncology inpatients and continuum practices for surgical and radiology oncology patients. In addition, Carolyn has executive accountability for the intensive and intermediate care medical nursing and the Catalyst research center. She is the executive nurse leader responslible and accountable for a $3 million current use philanthropic fund to advance integrative nursing at DFCI and its affiliated institutions. That effort includes the establishment of a Greater Boston area integrative nursing consortium blending academic and service partners across the state. Dr. Hayes received her BSN from Georgetown University, her master of science in nursing service administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her Ph.D. from Boston College. After completing her masters she did a fellowship in administration at the University of Chicago Hospitals and after completing her doctorate she did a fellowship in medical ethics at Harvard Medical School. More recently she was selected for and completed a year with the Brigham Leadership Development Program partnered with Harvard Business School. Her clinical, teaching, writing and research have been focused on clinical ethics, end-of-life decision making, integrative therapies and nursing administration. Carolyn has held various local academic appointments and has served several times as course faculty for clinical ethics courses at the graduate level in varied academic institutions. Dr. Hayes is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, American Nurses Association, Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses, American Organization of Nurse Executives,  and Organization of Nurse Leaders - Massachusetts and Rhode Island for which she served a two-year term as an elected Nominating Committee member.
